Meet The New Instrumental Friends

IF3I’m excited to announce the names of my new instrumental friends. They are Awesome Anne, Bearded Bryan, Courageous Chrishauna, Demented Dustin, Evaporated Eric, Jocose Jon, Judicious Jason, Killer Kiara, Kind Katie, Kool Kwesi, Loquacious Larissa, and Narcissistic Nawal. In the coming weeks, you’ll get to know them a little better before hearing their song on Instrumental Friends Part 3.

It was very difficult to decide who would appear on the album. I had far more friends interested in the project than I had anticipated. I decided to collect some basic biographical information about them along with three songs they felt represented them the best. I’ve made a YouTube playlist of all the entries which can be heard below. Quite an eclectic mix.

I thoroughly read every application and listened to every song. Gender, demographics, and previous involvement in my concept albums were all considered in the first pass. Then I had the visual artist look at images of everyone and make her selections based on who she would feel inspired to paint. Finally I tried to find a common musical thread among the majority of the people who made it past the first two rounds. It seemed it would be in the realm of guitar-driven electro-funk-rock. Yeah, I know. Not a genre.

This caused me to have to rethink a lot of the entries and throw some new folks into the mix that I hadn’t considered before. When all is said and done, we have six very different boys and girls from various facets of my life that will live harmoniously together on an album of instrumental music.

I want to thank everyone who took the time to fill out the application. I know it wasn’t easy and even though you aren’t on this one, the longer we know each other, the more likely you are to find yourself on a concept album.
