L.A.-based songwriter Monk Turner is an artist. His medium is the concept album.

Turner has released over 20 albums in collaboration with Creative Commons artists who share a “copyleft” vision of breaking through the constraints of copyright and distribution to deliver free music to the people.

Turner got his start as a principal songwriter and performer in various music groups. After the break up of his last band, he found he preferred working with musicians as part of a freeform collective and began recording concept albums at home on his four-track. Almost a decade later, he is still at it with an ever growing audience of listeners. Turner’s albums are designed to stand alone as concept art therefore live performances are a rarity.
